Battery discharger and load bank selection guide

Select a suitable battery discharger model and resistor load-bank arrangement for controlled industrial battery discharge testing at the required constant current across the selected battery voltage range.

Controller rating and load-resistor selection

The Battery Discharger applies a controlled DC load and supports constant-current and constant-power test profiles. The controller can regulate the test only when the supplied power stage and connected resistor/load assembly are suitable for the planned battery voltage, current and power.

Even where a controller platform can command up to 100 A, the correct load resistor still has to be selected. Resistance value determines whether the desired current can be reached, and thermal rating determines whether the load bank can absorb the planned power through the test voltage range.

If the tool indicates a custom build is needed, or if the same equipment must cover multiple battery types, voltages or currents, request an engineering review and the team will propose a suitable custom resistor set or load-bank arrangement.

The standard resistor set can be used. The first standard model that can maintain 10.0 A down to 90.0 V is BD-110V-M1. Use 1 x 3.49 ohm and verify at least 1 x 1.5 kW thermal capacity for the planned test.
The controller automatically regulates the load to hold the requested current as the battery voltage changes. A standard selection must keep the requested current available at minimum voltage and must dissipate at least Vmax x I. M1/M2/M3 use 1/2/3 identical resistors respectively. The final manual and rating plate prevail.
